Narrated `Aisha:

حَدَّثَنَا مُعَلَّى بْنُ أَسَدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم تَزَوَّجَهَا وَهْىَ بِنْتُ سِتِّ سِنِينَ، وَبَنَى بِهَا وَهْىَ بِنْتُ تِسْعِ سِنِينَ‏.‏ قَالَ هِشَامٌ وَأُنْبِئْتُ أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ عِنْدَهُ تِسْعَ سِنِينَ‏.‏

Rapporté par 'Aïcha : le Prophète (صلى الله عليه وسلم) l'a épousée quand elle avait six ans et il a consommé son mariage quand elle avait neuf ans. Hishâm a dit : On m'a informé que 'Aïcha est restée avec le Prophète (صلى الله عليه وسلم) pendant neuf ans (c'est-à-dire jusqu'à sa mort).

Rapporté par 'Urwa : Le Prophète (صلى الله عليه وسلم) a écrit le (contrat de mariage) avec 'Aïcha alors qu'elle avait six ans et a consommé son mariage avec elle alors qu'elle avait neuf ans et elle est restée avec lui pendant neuf ans (c'est-à-dire jusqu'à sa mort).

D'après le père de Hishâm : Khadîja mourut trois ans avant que le Prophète (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne parte pour Médine. Il y resta deux ans environ, puis il épousa 'Â'isha alors qu'elle était une fillette de six ans, et il consomma ce mariage lorsqu'elle avait neuf ans.

Khadija died three years before the Prophet (ﷺ) departed to Medina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he married `Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consumed that marriage when she was nine years old.

حَدَّثَنِي فَرْوَةُ بْنُ أَبِي الْمَغْرَاءِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ تَزَوَّجَنِي النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَأَنَا بِنْتُ سِتِّ سِنِينَ، فَقَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَنَزَلْنَا فِي بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ خَزْرَجٍ، فَوُعِكْتُ فَتَمَرَّقَ شَعَرِي فَوَفَى جُمَيْمَةً، فَأَتَتْنِي أُمِّي أُمُّ رُومَانَ وَإِنِّي لَفِي أُرْجُوحَةٍ وَمَعِي صَوَاحِبُ لِي، فَصَرَخَتْ بِي فَأَتَيْتُهَا لاَ أَدْرِي مَا تُرِيدُ بِي فَأَخَذَتْ بِيَدِي حَتَّى أَوْقَفَتْنِي عَلَى باب الدَّارِ، وَإِنِّي لأَنْهَجُ، حَتَّى سَكَنَ بَعْضُ نَفَسِي، ثُمَّ أَخَذَتْ شَيْئًا مِنْ مَاءٍ فَمَسَحَتْ بِهِ وَجْهِي وَرَأْسِي ثُمَّ أَدْخَلَتْنِي الدَّارَ فَإِذَا نِسْوَةٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَقُلْنَ عَلَى الْخَيْرِ وَالْبَرَكَةِ، وَعَلَى خَيْرِ طَائِرٍ‏.‏ فَأَسْلَمَتْنِي إِلَيْهِنَّ فَأَصْلَحْنَ مِنْ شَأْنِي، فَلَمْ يَرُعْنِي إِلاَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ضُحًى، فَأَسْلَمَتْنِي إِلَيْهِ، وَأَنَا يَوْمَئِذٍ بِنْتُ تِسْعِ سِنِينَ‏.‏

Rapporté par Aïcha : Le Prophète (صلى الله عليه وسلم) m'a fiancée quand j'étais une fillette de six ans. Nous sommes allés à Médine et avons séjourné chez les Banî al-Hârith bin Khazraj. Puis je suis tombée malade et mes cheveux sont tombés. Plus tard, mes cheveux ont repoussé et ma mère, Umm Rûmân, est venue me voir alors que je jouais sur une balançoire avec quelques-unes de mes amies. Elle m'a appelée, et je suis allée vers elle, ne sachant pas ce qu'elle voulait faire de moi. Elle m'a attrapée par la main et m'a fait tenir debout à la porte de la maison. J'étais essoufflée alors, et quand ma respiration est redevenue normale, elle a pris de l'eau et m'a frotté le visage et la tête avec. Puis elle m'a emmenée dans la maison. Là, dans la maison, j'ai vu des femmes Ansâr qui ont dit : « Meilleurs vœux et bénédiction d'Allah et bonne chance. » Puis elle m'a confiée à elles et elles m'ont préparée (pour le mariage). De manière inattendue, l'Apôtre d'Allah est venu me voir dans la matinée et ma mère m'a remise à lui, et à ce moment-là j'étais une fillette de neuf ans.

The Prophet (ﷺ) engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became Allright, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, "Best wishes and Allah's Blessing and a good luck." Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age.
